And yet. The logs show that although the number of monthly posts fell consistently (though not by a large amount) from 2007 to 2010, since mid 2011 they have been rising again, and in fact in 2012 showed the largest year-on-year rise since 2004. Sometimes 'impressions' and 'facts' are not the same thing.

Your point "since mid 2011 they have been rising again, and in fact in 2012 showed the largest year-on-year rise since 2004" Suggests fiscal statistic .. which ... by all means.... could be entirely accurate. However the new forums is a small part of 2012 - To gauge the effect of the new forums.... one has to take a month by month analysis since the start of 2012.... then subtract the forum traffic whose subject matter is about the new forums good or bad.

I don't think the forum changes have anything to do with the reduction of camera discussion, even the last couple of years have been sustained by violent arguing often about the most irrelevant things.  The real problem is that people have lost interest in the camera as a toy of discovery, just as the PC was dropped some time before, and now they are turning to smart phones and hand held devices to try to keep their curiosity alive, but these will be dropped in turn for whatever new marvel comes along.

Everything that you could say about a camera and a photo has been said a thousand time before over the last decade, there is no need to regurgitate these things any more.

Many will dissagree with this point of view, which is good because it might cause a momentary argument which will help keep the forums alove.
