New OM-D dull photos?

Recently purchased the new Olympus OM-D EM5

I previously had the EPL-1 and loved it but as I was always a fan of the OM-190, and read such good reviews, I figured this was the one.

I have it set up with the stock 14-42mm lens and have been taking many photos, mainly on setting P (program) and indoors without flash.

Just finding the results fairly lack lustre. The images aren't terribly sharp and the color rendition is fairly dull? Obviously I'm not expecting professional results but I do have a direct comparison with my EPL-1 and have to say so far pretty unimpressed.

Obviously results would be improved if I go out and buy a $700 lens but the results to me seem below par even for a stock lens. Could I be doing something wrong?
