Have you thought about how many photos or videos you would be taking per day?

You may think OVF (those who take quick action shots still prefer OVF) is on the way out but do keep in mind EVF uses power. A fully charged battery for EM-5 only gives you 200 to 300 shots. If you're full time shooting, you likely would be taking a lot of shots and making a lot of videos. Don't forget to bring several batteries and chargers.

GH3 is the size of a consumer grade crop-sensor DSLR.

DSLR may allow you to take more shots/videos before the battery runs dry.

I think however if he goes for the GH2 or OMD he could fit the camera + 2 spate batteries in the same sized space a small DSLR. Also bear in mind the weight of it (more important IMO). I think although the same size as a small DSLR, the GH3 is still lighter, especially with smaller lenses taken into account.

For shooting video he'll have to have the screen on the back on anyway. Either that or buy an external monitor which would be an even bigger package and use up more battery juice.

You could be right. I simply wanted to point out that although choosing the best gear is important, he should also consider how he would be using it and under what environment. If it was me, I would bring five batteries with me to the trip. A fully charged battery that can only give me a couple of hundred shots is not good enough for me (that's one thing I don't like about E-M5). His mileage certainly could vary.
