Help! do I have to ue Epson paper?

I posted this in the Epson printer forum but there dosen't seem to be anybody home.

Do I have to use Epson paper?

I used my Artisan 725 printer for the first time today. I used some left over HP paper. HP Advanced Glossy for the 5 x 7" prints, which came out great. Then, nine 8 x10" prints on HP Premium Plus High Gloss paper. Those are a disaster! Close up, t looks like the ink didn't absorb into the paper, especially the shadows and sort of clotted and streaked. Is this possible or is it just noise in the photo's being enlarged to 8 x 10. My old HP made very nice 8 x 10's but the ink was expensive, didn't have a cartirdge for each color etc.
