"second string"Heron reporting for duty. ZS19
Nov 17, 2012

As mentioned before, we saw none of the Cranes so prominent in Japanese art, in Kyoto, but the Blue Herons were sitting in as substitutes very well.

Here is one "Reporting for afternoon duty" at a teahouse in the Shosei-en garden of the Higashi Hongan-ji Temple.

Best viewed at original size. Small amount of crop to level + some Unsharp Mask in PSE8.

The Temple and gardens are separated by several blocks, and our Ryokan (hotel) was in between them, so historically it may have been on the temple grounds. We could see the trees from our window.

The gardens were designed in 1641, and completed in 1657 - they still have the architect's original plans and notes.
