Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8L 11 USM lens feeback

The 16-35 is a sweet lens. It really shines on FF. On a crop, it is still great, but not as spectacular as 16mm on FF.

However, at 35mm it is about a 50mm on FF and suitable for portraits, but not ideal.

If you really want a perfect portrait lens with really soft creamy backgrounds get the 50 1.4 for the crop camera.
