Is there any evidence for this? Although similar statements have been made in previous threads on these forums, I've yet to see it substantiated.

If the filter has no affect on the image, why remove it?

That's an 'if' which seems to assume a particular condition will be true. What about the 'else' condition for the if statement?

Some very high quality filters seem to have little detrimental effect in some circumstances. But there are plenty of examples, particularly when there is strong backlighting, or night scenes with street lighting etc. where the low-cost filters give very obvious artefacts.
