Beyond that, save up some. Expect to pay around $300 (new) as a starting point for a dependable smaller tripod. Look at it as a long term investment. Long after you've sold the X-E1 you'll still have the tripod to use.

Tend to agree. Although I actually bought a 2nd hand Gitzo Vitruvian (aluminium one) for £100 - tiny when folded, light, great quality and works well with the X-Series bodies.
