Re: GH3's ETX function a big plus

A strong plus for the GH3 in video mode is the ETC function, which gives full res 2.4X mag. with any lens while preserving the native aperture. With a touch or two of the finger your 12-35mm/2.8 lens converts to a 29-84mm/2.8. The only downside to this "free lunch" is that your sensor converts to a 5X crop factor by using only the central 1080X1920 pixels, which means you can't get very shallow DOF effects using it. The non-sealed G5 and GH2 have this function too.

A relatively inexpensive, compact lens kit with IS, quite good IQ, but not sealed, would be the Panny 14-45 and 45-200.

I read about this feature too and it sounds great. Is there any kind of digital zoom for the still photography with decent results? Something for a desperate situation? I have avoided digital zooms on digital cameras so far but was wondering what these newer cameras can do.

About the lens, I wish I knew for sure if I should stick to only weather sealed lenses or not. If weather sealing is not a necessity in humid climates, then the affordable options really open up.
