D800 storage card options

Primary slot:  SD

Secondary slot: CF

write to 1, then to 2 when 1 is full.

I use the SD slot as primary because fast SD cards are much cheaper than fast CF cards.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 64 GB cards (holds 1400 images about) are $140 and are fast; I never wait for the buffer with these cards.

I only use raw, 14 bit, lossless compressed.

Get Lightroom or Aperture and raw processing is painless.

There are lots of advantages to shooting raw as I'm sure you are aware.
