Is flash exposure linked to the focus distance?
In reply to AllOtherNamesTaken, Nov 17, 2012

Thanks. I'm not using any exposure compensation on either. Most of my pictures are acceptably exposed but once in a while I get some that are 2/3 to 1 stop overexposed.

I have noticed that most of the problem pictures aren't perfectly focused, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. The last time I tried to test that theory, the focus distance (the distance displayed on the lens) didn't seem to affect exposure (I made several exposures at different focus settings) but maybe it's more complicated than that. I will have to run some more tests.

Be careful to check you don't have some exposure comp dialed in on either the camera OR the flash, both would overexpose your image if you're unaware of it.
