Recently got a Sony NEX-F3 and I'm looking to expand on the lenses I currently have. Right now I only have the kit 18-55mm Sony, as well as 2 old MC/MD mount lenses from an old Minolta XG camera one is 35mm f/2.8 the other 135mm f/2.8 that I use with an adapter. I was wondering if anyone could give me some recommendations on lenses I could get/look for. The Sony 55-200mm E-mount and 16mm seem interesting but with the various adapters I've seen some nice older lenses that aren't so cheap as well. Any recommendations/advice/experience with other lenses on an NEX camera would be great.

I am just beginning to learn photography, so I don't shoot one thing in particular or any certain style. I would like to have different lenses so that I could do various things & not be limited. Thanks in advance for all the help!

I'll let others comment on Legacy lenses.  I had a Canon 50mm FD didn't like MF so I got the Sony 50mm OSS instead and I'm much happier now.  As for E-mount lenses, here's my brief opinion on them.

Sony E 10-18mm F4 OSS
• New, no reviews, sample images are a mixed bag, but I have seen some good shots so I'll likely pick this up eventually.

Sony E 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 PZ OSS
• Recently reviewed at ephotozine.com, excellent at most FL, very good at 50mm wide open.

Sony E 16mm F2.8 Pancake
• Not my favorite lens - mainly because I shoot with the NEX7 and this lens is only average on it.

Sony E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
• Better than average kit lens (no match to the Fuji 18-55), better performance on 16MP than 24MP.  Sold mine because my 18-200 is better optically.

Sony E 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS
• There are 2 versions of this, IMO, the better one is the bigger silver one. I own this and no all-in-one lens is better/sharper. Build is excellent too.

Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA
• Love this lens. Color, contrast, & sharpness are all excellent - even wide open.

Sony E 30mm F3.5 Macro
• An OK macro, the biggest problem is the FL is too short.  IQ fails on the NEX7 sensor.

Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS
• Reviewed at ephotozone.com, excellent at F1.8, stellar by F5.6.

Sony E 50mm F1.8 OSS
• I own this lens too, optically it's amazing. It's only down side is a slight purple fringing in a very few cases and AF can hunt for a couple of second on occasion.

Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS
• A very good telephoto and a good match for the 16-50 or 18-55.

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN
• Optically excellent, and very inexpensive.

Sigma 30mm F2.8 EX DN
• Optically excellent, and very inexpensive.

Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC
• A very good less expensive version of the Sony 18-200; But I'd still spend a bit more and get the Sony.

Three more announced, but not out yet.  I suspect these will all be excellent and pricey.

Carl Zeiss 12mm F2.8
Carl Zeiss 32mm F1.8
Carl Zeiss 50mm F2.8 Macro

My own personal "gotta have" list:

Sony 10-18mm
Sony 18-200mm (Silver one)
Sigma 19mm F2.8
Sony 24mm Zeiss
Sony 35mm OSS
Sony 50mm OSS
