Bryan Peterson's book Understanding Exposure is often recommended. You might want to look for a photography club in your area. Or even classes. In our area one of the local colleges has evening, non-credited classes on learning photography. A great deal will boil down to how you learn. On of the nice things about a photography club or classes is that you get to interact with other people and that tends to speed up the learning process.
