good points, all of these - with some exceptions: most notably the fact that the blue channel is much more heavily compressed in jpegs than green and red. This is irrelevant in most situations except those where blue is a dominant colour, ie. underwater photography. While a well-exposed jpeg can be an ok place to start, by the time you punched up contrast to cut through the murk the artifacts in blue channel start looking pretty obvious. The raw is a way to go then.

I suspect this could also be a case with some landscape work, like mountains / big sky and so on.
