Why am I losing ICONS on my WinExplorer display (XP)

Yes - that's exactly what I find a mystery.  First place I looked..but all buttons exactly as I set them...with Icons and Text below...AND Locked..yet it changes..

I'm sure there must be a Register key somewhere but a FIND does not show it .. nor any other sort of search.. anyway right now I've got this Portable prog..Explorer++.. on and it's quite excellent. You can equally set the top Menu items and have large or small icons so it's pretty much as I work it.. and with added features too.
but I wish I could find WHAT is causing the basic problem.. it's only in this last month or so and I'm sure SOME change of some kind has triggered it..yet it's NOT permanent..VERY erratic..

Ah well..THAT's blasted computers.  sometimes I wish I didn't use the damn thing..
