Professional printer for home use vs outsourcing prints

I know this question has been asked to death, but with the Canon Pixma Pro9000 and the 9500 dropping in price with current rebates I was wondering if it was worth getting a printer for home photo usage.
Is it cheaper to outsource prints or print at home (I dont print too often)?
Is editing with a wide gamut monitors a necessity if printing with one of these printers?
