But for now, I am saying that the large XP1 jpg prints I'm making on my Epson 7600 are much better than I expected - and clearly better than RAW prints from my D300 and 5D DSLRs.

Thanks for posting this.  I'm in the throes of making a decision to switch to Fuji from my Nex 7.  I've satisfied myself that the high ISO performance is far superior on the Fuji and, whilst I'm reasonably experienced in processing RAW (P'shop, ACR, Aperture etc) I really want to re-visit my film days and shoot extensively in Jpeg, which I regard as the digital equivalent of reversal film as opposed to RAW which I see as the equivalent of positive (print) film.

Back in the day, to be successful with slides, one had to really know one's camera(s), understand the qualities and deficiencies of different films, and use all one's skill and knowledge to get an acceptable image.

I know all the arguments about RAW vs Jpeg, understand them and agree that a RAW file has inherently more information to play with.  But, that's not what I personally want to spend my time doing at the moment - but all respect to those that do.

So, again, thanks for your post.  It's helped me considerably in moving to a final decision about the Fuji X series.

Best wishes

John
