I've owned a couple of 24-70's and have add issues with both besides having sample variations so I sold them awaiting the mkII but have since bought a used, mint 24-105 in the meantime and it turned out to be my favorite lens, although not my best.
The longer reach and IS were pleasant surprises in it's usefulness as I didn't miss the aperture either. After having it I now have no interest in the 24-70II especially since it would cost 3x as much as I paid for the 24-105.
