The s60 was a very good compact in its day - Canon's top of the line when it came to a compact with a wide angle lens.  It cost more than a G1X does now.  The lens was a pretty good 28-100 (if you ignore fairly strong barrel distortion).

Now my s60 appears to shoot, but I haven't tried downloading any shots because you can barely see them on the LCD screen to either compose or review.......unless I can solve this problem.  I don't think I can persuade the kids to use it on the basis that it takes good photos despite the fact that you can't use the LCD screen.  It'd be a bit like going back to film, but using the upload sometime later to see what you got on the computer.... Maybe there's still a chance.
