Some initial shots with X-E1 zoom kit

First three show a full size overview and two crops taken (not at the same time) with the 35 and the 18-55 at 35mm - should not read too much in - 35mm shot was taken at F3.5 which is near its sharpest, though its quite near edge. 18-55 was at F8 so some diffraction is occurring  however edge sharpness should be better. Conditions were also different favouring the 35 a little from a light point of view.

I will say the 35 is generally a little sharper - as you would expect. However the 18-55 for a zoom is more than adequately sharp at all focal lengths. To see the difference you really need to be at 100% and even then you could probably lose it on technique.

Lots of other stuff, just fun really. Only had a few hours of (very nice) daylight.

Also included some low light shots with very slow shutter speeds (down to 1/3s !!) which is easily good enough for an A3 print.

Only cautionary note, the lens shows some field curvature so shots at infinity can show some softening of the edges. The remedy is to use the edge focus point, or so it seems. I will do some more tests but this issue is something that I have come across on every short-mid tele zoom.

My opinion, unscientific as it is, is that unless you really want a small lens, you don't need the 18mm with this zoom. The zoom has similar centre sharpness and less corner blur and CA. Of course its also half a stop slower, and much bigger, but it does have OIS.

The 35 is very hard to beat, and the 18-55 doesnt match it. But at less than 100% its hard to notice. Even contrast seems comparable, but I will do some proper side by side shots.

It doesn't match the 60 though. This lens is sharp right into the corners, and the bokeh is much nicer and of course you can get a lot more of it.

But, for general street work, even comparing this lens with three excellent primes means its more than good enough. And XE1 IQ? Just the same as the Xpro1 of course
