I love the southwest... just got back recently from Monument Valley (God the red dust!!!) ... so let me also say that a polarizer, ND filter and blower are essential. The T1i body and range of lenses sounds good. One of the smaller cameras as a backup but not all of them!  Keep in mind that the battery chargers could tangle up and attack you!  I had my main 28-135 lens for my Canon 5DII die just hours after getting off the plane (only minimal pre-warning indications too!)... so luckily my wife's smart phone indicated a real camera store in Sedona... got there just about half an hour before they closed so I could by L-glass (24-105)... that single lens took about  95% of the shots I liked... the 70-300 carried the rest but only because I was damned determined to use it after slugging it around.  Enjoy!
