Soft spot on D800 - bad design or QA problem?

There's a soft round spot on the body of my D800 (pictured below, spot circled) that is much softer than the rest of the body and has quite a bit of flex or movement in it.  If I press the spot, the camera makes a very unhealthy clicking sound.  Is this yet another Nikon screw up? Design flaw or a QA problem?  Anyone else's D800 suffering from this?
