I think it's just a marketing that pushes people to browse heavy pages on their mobile phones. It will just never be convenient on a 4-5" screen regardless of browser speed. For basic web tasks 808 will do the job, even N8 does all the web job for me...but these days people are thaught it's modern to browse on your phone. I have tried browsing on SGSIII(arguably best mobile phone browsing experience) and found that I need 3-4 more time to finish something than on my PC. I appreciate my time sorry.
Also messaging on FP2 is on par with modern phones. Keyboard is Android-like etc. I have Sony Xperia beside my N8 and I don't find myself typing significantly faster on it, there is a small difference probably but negligible.
808 is meant for people that like nature and when in nature take pics of it record birds etc. Geekophones are made for geeks that will try to search for a WiFi signal in the middle of a forest to check them on facebook.
I agree that it's never convenient to perform internet browsing on tiny screens, but still some (or most) people will tend to do it especially when they are outdoors and do not have a computer in front of them. It's all about convenience of mobile phones when one is left with no option. Of course there is the iPad or Galaxy Tab but some would prefer not to carry an additional device other than a smartphone. Although mobile phones with screens larger than 4.5" are still too tiny for a satisfactory web-browsing experience, at least they are still larger than the smaller ones.
As for messaging, I don't know about others but I feel it's a chore typing on the N8 even with the Qwerty keyboard. It's not that it's unusable, but I often find myself struggling with the keypad, usually getting the wrong keys due to the tiny touchscreen(this is where larger screens will help here). Not to mention the predictive text feature is quite useless as it doesn't quite get the words that the user is looking for. A friend had gone with the Samsung Note II solely because she finds text messaging to be a breeze on it. She often complained how she struggled to find the right keys with her fat fingers on smaller touch screens. For her priority in text messaging, she chose the Note II for the larger touch screen.
Do you find the Pureview 808 with the FP2 to offer an improved messaging experience over the N8? The size of the screen is more or less the same although it's 10cm longer.
I think you got a point about 808 users looking to snap more quality pictures of the nature and tech geeks looking to find a wifi signal in the middle of the forest with their Android-based phones.
Cheers.
when I am outdoors I need camera, GPS, weather forecast, music player and phone functions and I leave my Internet at home, if I get so bored outdoors that I need to browse Internet then I shouldn't be there in the first place what I use Internet for at such situations is to check some facts on wikipedia or similar simple tasks that don't require 4 cores and huge screen
I have tried 808 with FP2 and the typing is indeed more natural (after some use), however it can't beat 5.5" phones the same way 5.5" phones can't beat real keyboard
