G1X using faster shutter speed with a NONE Canon flash

Hi, It's really a long shot, but I wonder if it might allow faster if you taped over all but the cam hot-shoe's central pin. (Another way is to use one of Mpex's 'Universal adapters' which also insulate all but the central pin.) I am just speculating that the cam interprets 5 pins as an Ex Speedlite.
