Updated the 45-175mm lens to firmware 1.1, seems better
In reply to ulmer, Nov 15, 2012

I recalled that there was a firmware update for the Panasonic 45-175mm a while back, so I hooked up the camera and checked it. What do you know, it had firmware 1.0 and 1.1 was available.

After installing 1.1, I retested and the results seem a lot better. One of the changes in this firmware has to do with OIS performance. Hopefully that was the issue I was seeing. Check your firmware version if you have a 45-175!

So, if this stays reliable, it looks like Panasonic OIS lenses without IS on/off switches are going to work fine on the E-PL5.

The version 1.1 firmware update for the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm offers the following improvements:

    • Optimized operation when using Touch Zoom with DMC-GX1
    • Improved the stability of O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer)
    • Improved AF (Auto Focus) performance in photo / video recording
