Hourly vs Package rates

Hello everyone,
I'm another graphic designer turn photographer and I've done a fair share of corporate headshots, events etc. Coming from a design background I generally just charge my normal rate x hours spent shooting + hours x retouching. It's worked out well but I really feel I need to start generating more profit so I can actually put some back into my business. The question is which is more popular/easier for client to swallow in this field: Hourly vs Package?
I generally invoice straight forward Shoot time x rate + retouch/export x rate. I currently bill my design rate of $50/hr (for design that is common in the burbs) but I want to raise my rates in order to make enough to start buying better gear, rather than renting per shoot.
My thought was doing a hybrid for on-location by charging hourly for travel/on-location time but then packaged rate for (1) Portrait, (1) Alternate, (1) 300 DPI full size, (1) 72DPI for Social Media etc for $150/person. That way if I spend the usual 30min - 1hr retouching I can make more per-hour without it looking like I'm charging more for that portion.
Probably over thinking this but I wanted to gather some input from those who have been doing this much longer than I have.
Thanks.
