Aim your camera at a scene and then alternate the white balance K setting between the lowest and highest. You'll see that the exposure doesn't change at all.
The WB setting may not have an effect on the metering, but it could (should) have an effect on the exposure you choose. For example, if you use sunny WB with tungsten or warm CF lights, the histogram will show that the red channel is clipping about a stop before any clipping really occurs (usually in the green channel.) Using tungsten WB, you'll get a somewhat more accurate representation of when the channels clip.
