Unlike my Noiseware Community software, which I simply always run at Default setting, Panny's NR inserts NR artifacts which are worse than noise. I call them blotches or frogspawn. Even at 80-100 ISO, these blotches appear on shaded faces, in skies, in car paintwork, etc. The smearing is bad too. Noise is more even, like film grain.
I learnt a lot when I had the Oly E-410 where I could turn off the NR. The noise could be taken out cleanly by Noiseware, or ignored when it didn't matter. I enjoyed having the choice.
So the FZ settings we have discussed are helpful, in the absence of NR with the option of switching it off.
