you never get the same "available" space as advertised because of the OS/apps but I must admit that 50% is a bit much. I suppose it depends on what is installed, what is offered for free and what you can uninstall. There is also the possibility of using a reasonably cheap micro sd card to expand the memory like most android tablets can so its not as critical as it would be with a tablet that does not have a card slot like the Ipad and a couple of Samsung tablets.
I would buy a 32GB sd card anyway as I have on my Sony tablet
