The ergonomics of this camera are a step backwards from the d700 and it generally feels less robust. The Canon AF module is superior to the d800, which is simply less reliable - particularly in low light situations. QC on the Nikons is poor, with consistently poor L bank AF performance. I believe Nikon really needs to update this AF module to match up to the demands of that sensor.

If you shoot manual landscapes on a tripod, then it's a great choice - the clarity and resolution of the d800e is remarkable and AF issues are less relevant with this method.The d800e has a great sensor - but it's stuck in a mediocre body with subpar AF. I was enamored with this camera, initially, but after extensive shooting, between the build, grip, AF problems and slow feel - I simply got fed up with it. I've been more than happy with the 5D3 - I simply enjoy shooting more and it's image quality is excellent. For general purposes, it's the superior camera.
