Okay, well you cannot deny the oil problem, widely becoming known. I have several folks I know with the issue. It's like a chip pan back there on that sensor.
And yes hardly king of video - you cannot even change aperture in live view without going out and coming back in LOL. Yeh they are going to fix it I hear...lets wait n see if they actually fix it. They are only just fixing the autofocus issue that's plagued the D800 for months so excuse me if my confidence in Nikon is at all time low (for more reasons than I state here).
The thing that is annoying is why do they release stuff with these obvious idiot flaws? Who would think the aperture "fixing" in liveview is a good idea? Are you seriously telling me they didn't realise people would hate that? And the damn black borders on monitors? I mean serious Nikon what are you up to these days?
All cameras have oil problems, this is due to mechanical lubrication. Canon video, even on high end cameras such as the 5D Mark III is far not as sweet looking as Nikon files. Nikon motion is way more organic and sharper natively. Now, maybe you should stop complaining and go shoot, this may help.
Friendly advice: do not answer him. His first reply was that it had bad video, when you objected he then replied BUT it has oil, which makes it clear his only purpose is to sandbag the product and Nikon. Maybe he is jealous he does not have one, who can say? Either way he has no other purpose other than negativity, and as a long time user of forums (in general) one learns to steer clear of such people and ignore them. Some people are just born to complain.
I have a D800, I don't share idiotic jealously of trolls on here. I have several collegues that own the D600 and have the issues mentioned on this site. End of discussion.
Just so you know the D800 isn't perfect either, mine is broken and away for repair. We aren't all fanboys. I can criticize Nikon...
There is a big difference between being a fanboy and being born to complain. The D600 is a fantastic camera through and through. You are suggesting it is not a camera one should recommend. You have not said a single positive thing about it, so you are born to complain. A cup is half empty person if you prefer.
please stop the fights
I guess that primeshooter is also upset that he had to send his new D800 for repair already (which is legitimate) and yes, this is anormal when spending so much money on a pro level camera, this should simply not happen. Regarding the video flaws, I already said it before : Nikon was the 1st brand who announced very proudly the integration of video in the D90, but since, they kept bricking almost all their DSLR cameras for obscure reasons. (pact with Sony ?) The paradox is that Nikon offers a way better IQ than Canon regarding video files (this may be due to the exmor sensors and better processing), this is why I switched back fully to Nikon.
FTH, I guess you are right; I do feel a little annoyed about the whole situation but I think it'll pass when I receive it back which what-do-ya-know should be tomorrow. I think the D600 is already showing to be a great camera by a few minor issues that are getting sorted (the D800 had a few too which seem to now be sorted too).
I do see your logic with video though. I am not a huge video user by any means but I have shot a few things and edited them out, it is actually a joy to manual focus - I find it much easier with AF-D primes than the G lenses.
Yes it is, but when you invest 2K in a 24mm 1.4G you would expect it to work properly with video too I fabricated a loupe in front of the camera (like the ones sold by hoodman) and it really help to shoot run and gun situations or documentaries. It helps blocking the sunlight, focusing and stabilizing shots. What I like about Nikon is the organic look of videos (I use to shoot Canon for video, but it is like night and day)
Are you talking about the more "film like" less digital look when shooting at 24FPS and 1/50 etc? Or just generally? I've always heard people go on about the 5d2 video but that may just be because it was the first useable video on a DSLR, not necessarily the best?
I am not talking about frame rate (all DSLR cameras are able to shoot 24P) but ovreall IQ. Canon uses heavy AA filters and old sensor technology, their downsampling method is also different. (down sampling = line skipping to get frome 24MP or 21MP to ~2MP, 1080P) Nikon clearly has an the edge in terms of IQ, but the game is changing every year and new products such as the NEX line and Black magic camera are coming on the market.
