You have IMO 3 choices -
dye sub, as in thermal I guess you'd say. Costs more to start wtih and does few sizes.
ink jet is the best choice I think.
There are 'consumer' ink jets and they are cheap - often under $100. Haven't looked in a while but most have 5 inks and small cartridges. Print quality/speed is OK.
Then there are professional grade ink jets - canon ipf series of printers.

HP and epson also make pro level printers. Quality from any of them is as good or better than pro labs do.
