One really misses the 12-24/ 14-24mm or so... but you might use 16-35 L

That may be the case, but I do not have enough knowledge to know that it would be possible to lower prices that way. I guess the law of demand and supply play a part here.

I do not think that the 16-35 is equivalent to the 14-24, even discounting the different focal length. I am very happy with my TS-E 17mm f/4L though
