As long as you do not intend to let the camera out of your hands, a mono-pod for streets might be an equally good choice for d800. In bright daylight (1/1000s or faster) you can free-hand it with no issues.
I don't to do street with any kind of support. I only use a tripod for studio kind of shooting.
