The only time a smaller sensor with the same pixel count is superior to a larger sensor (aka higher pixel density) is when you are focal-length limited.

DO NOT USE AN ERASER ON THE LENS CONTACTS!!!!!

Canon specifically warns against this as you can easily rub off the gold plating on the contacts requiring them to be replaced. Just use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip...

But as someone mentioned I don't think its the contacts that are your problem
