The S5000 is a great little camera. I still own one and use it a lot when I don't want to risk taking my DSLR or when my daughter wants to borrow a camera. There is not much control of DOF but it still performs well.
The internal battery has long since died so whenever I changed batteries I have to reset things.
That price is too much though.
I really like the zoom.You can control the aperture and shutter. The photos below were all taken in manual mode. Manual mode works well for getting photos in tough light situations but for controlling DOF not so much.
The first photo gives you an idea how far from the stage we were. These are some of my favorite images taken with the S5000. I have many from ball games over the years and many family shots using this camera.
If you look at the full size you will see lots of noise. I could get rid of a lot of it by running it through some noise reduction software. A couple of these photos have been printed at 8 x 10 and look great on my wall.
