Getting close (ht xtoph)
In reply to fad, Nov 15, 2012

Chris has commented on the fact that obviously I'm getting a lot of people noticing my lens.   Last night, I had a sore back, so I took the D800 and 35D along.   So, says I to myself, suppose Chris is right.  So, as an experiment, I started shooting closer and faster.   Fewer stares.  And some very forgettable close shots of people with fewer expressions of delight and surprise.

Chris and zubu and others swear by the 35mm fov.   I've forced myself to use it, but it does not come natural.

This subway shot is 1/3 of the original pixels (still 13mpx), so its fov is a lot narrower than 35mm and is thus closer to way I see.   Ironically, the D800 has so many mpx that the crop has enough detail, and the smaller lens makes it easier to shoot in a crowded subway car.
