If you care so much about being perceived as a "serious" photographer, just grab a used RB67 off of KEH for cheap and impress people right and left. If you are more concerned about your photography, then just go about you business and don't pay any attention to what others think.

I don't care how people view my gear when just walking around. But when I turn up to do a shoot and someone else ends up doing it because of the way people in general view our respective cameras, then it concerns me.
