Hi JohnBee.

I just checked out the 2 new images and on my home computer (better screen) and the differences are still there. looking at them at screen size, the differences aren't as apparent as when they're blown up to 100%. I checked at 100% and, for example, looking at the queen's face, the ink dots making up her facial features look kind of smoothed over on the II, but on the IIs they kid of jump out at you, bringing a richer color overall.

I don't think you can see any individual ink dots there?

Pixel peeping really brings out the sharpness of the IIs too (check green and blue feather tips, Martini bottle cap writing etc). It may be that the finer detail of the edges makes the colors appear deeper because there is a sharper difference between contrasty colors like white and red. It may be an optical illusion. Does that even make sense? I dunno. Just going by what my eyes are telling me.

Okay, so just to be sure, are you saying the color differences mentioned earlier are now gone?
I was never able to identify what that was btw. Though I might have inadvertently hit something on the way out that could have affected color profiling in some way or another.

As for sharpness, I must admit, I was so preoccupied with the color issue that I completely neglected the rest of the comparison. That being said, I've taken the liberty of adjusting the images so as to better reflect their inherent capacity for detail. Though I'd caution against falling for the false detail produced by moire with the K-5 IIs. To which I'd add, can easily create the illusion of detail where none should exist.

In closing I'd add that though there are inherent differences between the K-5 II and K-5 IIs, it appears as though these can all be addressed in post. Insofar as final detail goes, it looks as though the K-5 II has the upper hand. ie. what is lost to moire can never be regained, though what is obfuscated by the AA filter seems easily recoverable.

I think he is looking at the images at 400% or something, so that you clearly see the individual pixels. At that level, I mostly see JPEG artifacts ((the primary reason why you shouldn't interpret more into the 400% views). The other thing you immediately see are sharpening artifacts (once you apply sharpening)

I cannot see any color difference either, btw. Just took GIMP's color picker and transferred some of the colors from one image to another. They blend seamlessly (to my eyes, at least).

I have to admit that personally, I see almost no advantage of the IIs over the II, but lots of moiré. But it is what people asked for.
