But as someone else in the thread mentioned it does go both ways...when I see a Nikon or Canon strap it's a "sheep" who boght a low-end Canikon only for te name, and they didn't bother to do any research. If they don't even bother to replace the cheap OEM strap with a decent one, they can't really care about their equipment (I've never used the strap that came with a camera).

This is very true. I have been known to see someone with a bottom of the line Canon and just think "why?" and feel like if they did a bit of research they could have got so much more for their money and therefore clearly don't know much about photography (stupid link to make a know).

Strangely I think this more of Canon owners than I do Nikon. Maybe it's the fact that a lot of them also seem to own all the latest Apple products that does it. So yes, I suppose I'm just as guilty of thinking stuff about a person because of the camera they own. The fact that I know the specs of almost every DSLR under the sun at least stops me thinking it's an incompetent camera though, so I wait to see the person using it before I judge too much.

...yeah... you don't seem judgmental at all... or vain.

You should probably get a medium format camera. Then everyone will know you mean business.

One step ahead of you. Most likely candidate is a Hasselblad with a Phase One P25 back =P. But anyways, off topic a bit.

At least my assumptions are actually based on something other than size or brand, I only judge cameras that I could run through the specs of and give a street price for. If there's something that they could have got which is clearly better for the money, but isn't a Canikon, then I might begin to question why.

Don't omit the possibility of a skilled enthusiast just trying to appease their passion while under a great financial strain.

I very much doubt my field approach would impress anyone - so I've made sure to use a non OEM neck strap to give the impression I know what I'm doing.

;-P
