Trying to decide between the 16-35VR/85 1.8 G combo or the 24-70 2.8 G?

Trying to decide between the 16-35VR/85 1.8 G combo or 24-70 2.8 G? Which would you get? I like the fact I'd get an ultra wide angle and fast aperture short telephoto, but if I get the 24-70 I get a semi-fast zoom with metal build quality. I've owned all 3 in the past and liked all of them! I just can't decide which setup I want. Lenses will be used on a D3/D800E combo.
