Tripod head for the non-tripod shooter

I've been reading the excellent discussion of the best support equipment for the D800.
As a street photographer, I rarely use a tripod, but I've been enjoying using the D800 as a studio camera for a portraiture course at ICP. And, well, gear is gear.
I have a good Gitzo carbon fiber tripod and and Arca Swiss B1 ball head that I bought about 5 years ago. I don't trek with a tripod, so I really only need a camera support near home, but I do have to schlep it up and down stairs.
So for me, given an adequate level of support, the key issue is ease of use. I use the tripod so rarely it's taken me years to get used to adjusting the legs. I'm still a little uncomfortable with adjusting the B1. It seems a little fiddly, a little stiff. Is there another quality ballhead, perhaps the Arca Swiss P0, that is easier, and/or lighter to use for the times I use a tripod?
The largest camera/lens I have is the D4/70-200G. Most usual would be the D800 and 24-70G. So no use in adverse conditions, no trekking, no large cameras or lenses, infrequent use. But I like good gear.
Thanks in advance.
