nex 5n vs dslr

I am new to DSLR's. I have seen pictures taken by Nikon D5100. I am impressed with those samples. I have decided to upgrade from my compact (Canon SX5IS) machine.

My preferences are Portrait, Landscape/Scenary/Travelling, Indoor, Macro. My budget is around 1k $ including lens. I can stretch budget if necessary.

After reviews I am equally impressed with Sony NEX 5n because of its compact and IQ. Now I am confused, whether to take Nikon 5100 or Nex 5N. Please suggest Pros and cons of Nex 5N when compared to conventional dslr like 5100 or alternative interchangeable compacts considering my preferences.
