I only shut mine off when I'm going to use a full tripod and timer. Otherwise I just leave it on regardless of amount of light, time of day etc. I have NEVER experienced what some are referring as "shutter shock". I have many examples of shots taken with the shutter speeds mentioned and have not had that issue. I like the latest firmware update best of all as well. It just "works"
