Oil painting vs Smudge painting!

Why would we spend hours in smudge painting while we can use oil painting in photoshop cs6 ?
I know that using smudge tool gives you the full control and the results would be better of course but for enthusiast (just like me) I don't need the professional look and I don't want to spend hours in doing that .
By the way, I like Mr.Scott and Mr.Ray's results they are perfect and I think they are great artists .
