DSLR's are longer-lived than lesser cameras, because of their utility and image quality.

Do people really spend $700 on a camera so they can take a picture of a squirrel or a duck?
In the pre-dslr days , slrs used to live for decades! I still have a perfectly functioning pentax slr from 30-35 years ago handed down by my father. With digital, things are much shorter lived, but yah, dslr's still manage to have a good operational life!
