First Camera/Lens - Help Appreciated

Hi guys,

I've been looking to get a camera for the past year or two but between for one reason or another I never made the purchase. Recently I came across a relatively new system of cameras from a company that already make the majority of camera parts for all manufacturers. Even though I'm relatively new to photography (well I did do a photography module in college), I think the NEX system fits exactly what I'm looking for.

Can someone assure me that the Sony NEX system is right for me? What I'm looking for in photography is a part-time hobby to complement my other hobby of music technology. I want a camera that can take high quality photos (professional looking) for music gear for a blog, a camera that I can take out with me to a club/gig and take pictures without looking like the nightclub photographer, a camera that I take photos of with friends and family, a camera that I can take with me travelling to take photos of landscapes, cities and general interesting things. Now when I say camera I mean like a camera system (lenses, etc) I'm quite fascinated by HDR photography, in particular, of landscapes and cities and also them long exposure shots. I Note: I own Adobe CS6, so post production isn't a problem.

Camera:

Ok, as far as I'm aware the camera doesn't make as much of a difference as lenses do to achieve what I'm looking for above. But it's still quite important to have a camera none the less. I don't want to be a pro, even though I want pro looking shots, so I've eliminated the NEX-7. The NEX-6, is probably the most appealing to me with a viewfinder and better auto-focus then the NEX-5n which I'm also looking at. The reason for the 5n is because I can get it for €399 with a 18-55mm lens. A very appealing price as I'm a student. But on the another hand, being a student has it's advantages because I can purchase the NEX-6 of Sony with a 10% discount. Like I said, the NEX-6 is more appealing because of it's up to date feature (I could live without WIFI) and I really think I'd take advantage of the viewfinder. But maybe buying the NEX-5n now and building up on lenses would be a good thing and perhaps by the time the successor of the NEX-7 is released it will have more appealing features then the current NEX-7 has.

Lenses:

Boom. Lenses, all I read is that it's all about the lenses and that investing money in them is much worthwhile. I certainly agree with the concept, you get what you pay for, as I've learned from acquiring a relatively large amount of high quality music gear. So, I can avail of a 10% discount on lenses too (I think). Not really feeling the 18-55mm lens on the 5n, too big, not cool. I love the size of the 16-50mm PZ lens on the NEX-6 and according to reviews it looks like a decent lens! Might be a good lens to get me going with photography. Also thats another reason why I would get the NEX-6, seeing as I can get it as the kit lens. The 18-55mm not so much.. The new 35mm looks the biz as well, the sharpness of photos already out I really love. I think it would be a great lens for what I want re above (you might be able to tell me otherwise). Would these lenses suit what I'm looking for according to above?

So I'm thinking of writing to Santa for the NEX-6 inc 16-50mm and the 35mm lens, that this would be a good start to get into photography. Any thoughts would be taken with great appreciation!
