Looking for more sharpness

Post full res (or a full res crop). Should be crisp almost down to the pixel. At 1024 pixels down sampled anything would look sharp.

It sounds to me like your problem is with technique. If the image isn't per pixel sharp at 1024 the technique must be very bad in one way or another or the camera and/or lens must be damaged.
