Getting good long exposures with any NEX set up?

I guess I should have specifically said nighttime landscapes, I would love to get something like this

Although I haven't ventured to far out in the wilderness yet, and I still only have the 18-55.  I think this winter I will venture out; and pick up the sigma 19mm.

My biggest difficulty so far is definetly focusing, I find it very difficult.
