The bar for advances is on a much larger scale than it was just a dozen years ago. Back then a jump from 2 to 3 megapixels was major. Relatively minor features and upgrades in today's terms were seen as much more momentous back then. I easily recall the news about the new 'megapixel cameras'. Wow, imagine a megapixel digital camera!

We get jaded - actually a lot of the cameras that we turn our noses up at are amazing steps forward, or at least diagonal.

As long as you have the camera that does your tasks the way you want, you've achieved that part of the hobby - all that remains is to use the camera and become better at it.

Do people really spend $700 on a camera so they can take a picture of a squirrel or a duck?
